The Victoria Bach Festival returns this weekend, offering a week of classical musical performances across the Crossroads and Victoria. This is the 49th season of the festival as the organization continues its mission to educate and inspire musicians and audiences alike through diverse orchestral, choral and chamber music performances. "This is world-class music," said Buck Moore, Victoria Bach Festival executive director.
"Most of our folks are professional musicians. Many of them are educators and teach at the college level, so their musicianship is very high, so when you pull together that many artists and musicians of that caliber, the music that they produce is something that a lot of people don't normally get the chance to see unless you live in Houston and go to the Houston Symphony or Austin Symphony, those type things, but we have it right here in your backyard, and a lot of it is free." The festival opens this weekend at the historic Presidio la Bahía in Goliad with Bach and Beyond with Cellist Greg Sauers as he delves into the profound influence of Johann Sebastian Bach on the cello and its broader musical landscape.
Sunday, Cuero gets the encore performance at the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum. "For the past three years, we've done Goliad and Cuero," Moore said. "It makes for an amazing concert experience because you're up close and personal with a musician, and you get to experience them in a way you wouldn't if you were in a large hall somewhere.
