A MAJOR warning has been issued to thousands of Irish people over a condition that can "come on suddenly". A leading healthcare consultant has issued a stark warning to ensure the public are aware of the symptoms of heart failure. Blackrock Health is urging people to recognise these symptoms and know when is the time to seek medical help.
New data has shown the top reasons why people look into heart health investigations, with 51 per cent experiencing chest pain , 30 per cent experiencing palpitations and only 10 per cent suffering actual heart failure. The research has also found that 77 per cent of people have experienced the symptoms linked to the illnesses and 20 per cent did not take any action. Consultant Cardiologist Dr Richard Armstrong at Blackrock Health is now hoping to raise awareness of the most commonly experienced heart health conditions.
Dr Armstrong said: “Heart-related chest pain can vary significantly in terms of severity, from quite subtle or a mild discomfort through to crushing or searing pain. "A more severe pain should spark an immediate call to 999 to attend the nearest emergency department in case you are experiencing a heart attack, but we know that more milder chest pain can often be put down to other less serious health concerns by the person experiencing it. "Chest pain should always spark action to seek medical attention as there are many conditions related to the heart that should be investigated to ensure the symptom is not masking something.
