AN urgent health warning has been issued to parents heading abroad with their kids as cases of a viral illness rocket. One doctor has taken to TikTok to warn parents about the major increase in measles cases . Dr Monica Peres Oikeh, known on TikTok as dr.

blondieperes , is urging her 65,000 followers to be aware of the viral illness while travelling abroad this summer. Measles is a highly contagious viral disease caused by the measles virus. It is known to potentially cause serious health complications, especially in young children and those who are immunocompromised.



Dr Monica has warned Irish parents about the measles virus while going abroad. She said: "As we know, cases of measles has risen all over Europe, and the amount of cases we have in Ireland is higher than what we had this time last year." "For people living in Ireland that have children aged between 6 months and 11 months and they're planning to go abroad, please consider getting your child the MMR vaccine.

" The MMR vaccine provides immunity against the measles virus, preventing infections and it spreading. It also helps prevent serious complications associated with measles, such as pneumonia and encephalitis. The vaccine is required for all children who are 12 months and older, but the recent spike in cases has led to the health warning for parents who have younger children.
