The United Nations Population Fund (UNPFA), Wednesday, said it will continue to deliver humanitarian and health related services to people of Plateau state especially those affected by crises. The UNPFA lead team, Doctor Matthew Onoja, made the statement at the closing of a 10-day capacity building for Nurses, Midwives and CHEWs, aimed at, “strengthning the health system to respond to basic reproductive, maternal and child health during emergencies in Plateau State,” organised in collaboration with the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRSC), and Plateau State Government. He said: “With the training imparted in the health workers, it is hopeful that participants will give the desired support to persons in dire need of basic reproductive, maternal and child health during emergencies.
” According to him, the UNPFA, while taken assessments in the aftermath of the last crises in Mangu, Bokkos and Barkin Ladi, noticed some gaps that, calls for the capacity building of health workers in the State. The Plateau State branch Secretary of the Red Cross, Nuruddeen Hussain Magaji, said the collaboration between them and the UNPFA, would continue to support women and children, been the most vulnerable people. “We will continue to put in our best to ensure that, those in need gets the desired help,” he said.
The Permanent Secretary, Plateau Ministry of health, Mr. Horlong Turnoe Hoomkwap, said the training has prepared the health workers with the necessary skills to handle cases of wo.
