The origins of the sport are still debated to this day, but it is generally accepted that modern golf developed in Scotland from the Middle Ages onwards.

Today it has over 550 courses scattered across the country. And this month Scotland will again host the Open Championship when it is played at Troon — the 10th time the course in South Ayrshire will host the event..
