A downtown tunnel shutdown by Sound Transit leads this weekend’s list of work-zone detours in the Seattle area, along with some Interstate 5 lane reductions. Westlake, University Street, Pioneer Square, International District/Chinatown and Stadium stations will close all day Saturday and Sunday. Buses labeled “Link Shuttle” will go between Capitol Hill and Sodo stations, making all stops along the way every 15 minutes.
Crews will install new rails at International District/Chinatown Station. “It’s time for them to be replaced, for a smoother ride,” spokesperson John Gallagher said. Doing the work now will avoid conflicts with the Seattle Pride Parade on June 30, and will take advantage of the Mariners being on the road.
Sound Transit also wants to finish before Aug. 30, the grand opening of four light rail stations between Northgate and Lynnwood, Gallagher said. However, the Sounders play a home match at 7:30 p.
m. Saturday , against Dallas, followed by a Seattle Reign game at 3 p.m.
