RANT AND RAVE Rave to the woman waiting with her dogs outside the convenience store on Nickerson Street. I was stuck on hold trying to help a wheelchair-bound unhoused gentleman get some help, and she asked him if her dogs could meet him and get petted by him. I’ve heard countless advocates for our street population say that helping them feel seen and having their humanity acknowledged is a big, big deal, and too often we all just avoid eye contact.
The gentleman loved being able to pet those sweet dogs and I am thankful to their owner for demonstrating such warm kindness. Rant to the bureaucracy of our emergency shelter networks, both civic and nongovernmental organizations. Rave to the kind people within those networks who work the system as best they can.
RANT to the number of vehicles on the road with expired license plates. Rant squared to the government’s lack of enforcement..
