Doha, Qatar: Debutants Qatar will take on South Korea in their first match of the Asian Men’s Volleyball Challenge Cup in Isa Town, Bahrain, today. Qatar, determined to show their potential on the continental stage, are placed in Pool C, in the first round of the organised by the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC)-organized 12-team tournament, along with South Korea and Indonesia. With South Korea already leading the Pool with a win over their Southeast Asian counterparts yesterday, the outcome of today’s match will be crucial for Qatar, coached by Argentine Camilo Soto.

They will take on Indonesia in their second match tomorrow. Meanwhile, in yesterday’s Pool C opener, last year’s bronze medallists South Korea crushed Indonesia 3-0, with a dominant scoreline of 25-11, 25-16, and 25-9. In the tournament’s opening match yesterday, China secured a strong 3-0 victory over the Philippines with set scores of 25-19, 25-22, and 25-22 to take the lead in Pool A with 3 points.



Hosts Bahrain are the third team in their pool. Meanwhile, Pakistan faced stiff opposition in Kazakhstan but managed to secure a 3-0 win with scores of 25-19, 25-19, and 25-21 to take the lead in the highly competitive Pool B which also includes the reigning champions Thailand. Meanwhile, in Pool C, Australia triumphed over Chinese Taipei with a straight-set win, with scores of 25-21, 25-17, and 25-17.
