Scots firm Green Bioactives has unveiled its latest offering called GBL-Memory, which contains two plant extracts that claim to "significantly improve" older adults' memory when taken for a month, as per a recent study's findings.
This health supplement could tackle cognitive decline head-on, an urgently needed solution considering our ageing population, according to researchers. Dementia is a severe form of cognitive decline and affects an estimated 90,000 people across Scotland. Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) and L-Theanine are naturally found in onions, chicory, garlic, asparagus and bananas, perhaps surprising ingredients in this memory-assisting pill.
The combo was tested on animals and people in clinical trials and proved beneficial for memory functions. Past studies document that after 65, the risk of significant cognitive impairment or dementia doubles every five years. A worrying one in 14 people over 60 deals with considerable cognitive issues.
