Wachiwit Johnson & Johnson ( NYSE: JNJ ) must pay an Oregon woman $260M, who claims she developed mesothelioma after inhaling the company's talc products, an Oregon jury ruled on Monday. The jury award includes $60M in compensatory damages and $200M in punitive damages. The plaintiff alleged she developed mesothelioma from asbestos-containing talc over more than three decades, starting when her mother used it on her when she was a baby and later as a deodorant, Reuters reported .
A J&J attorney at trial said the plaintiff's mesothelioma was likely the result of exposure to asbestos from a factory close to where she grew up.
