BISMARCK — North Dakota health officials are warning residents about recalled mushroom edibles that may be related to a death in the state. Prophet Premium Blends Diamond Shruumz products were recalled on June 28, according to a release from North Dakota Health and Human Services, which advised residents not to eat, sell or serve the products. The products include chocolate bars, cones, gummies and related products that may still be available online or at retailers that sell hemp-derived and smoking and vaping products, the release said.

Health and Human Services and the poison control center identified a death in North Dakota that may be associated with Diamond Shruumz products, the release said. The two organizations are working with the Food and Drug Administration and state partners to investigate the death. The recalled products contain muscimol, a chemical found in mushrooms of the genus Amanita that could cause symptoms experienced by people who became ill after consuming Diamond Shruumz products, according to the FDA.

As of July 2, according to the FDA, there have been 48 illnesses in 24 states related to the products, with 46 people seeking medical care and 27 hospitalized. Symptoms include seizures, loss of consciousness, confusion, sleepiness, abnormal heart rates, irregular blood pressure, nausea and vomiting, Health and Human Services said. Anyone who becomes ill and suspects poisoning can call the Poison Center at 800-222-1222.
