During a review of CCTV footage, a man and woman entered the store and placed a number of items in the trolley including a digital air fryer valued at £119.

They were spotted putting the goods into a vehicle which was insured to the defendant. When police searched her home and vehicle, only a mat was recovered. Mongan’s lawyer raised an issue from the pre-sentence report in which the defendant appears to defend the theft saying it was for her children.
District Judge Michael Ranaghan said: “That her air fryer was broken and rather than pay for a new one she simply nicked one.” The other man appears not to have been made accountable, the court was told. Mongan was sentenced to six months in.
