A mum found out that her son had cancer after he kept complaining of bad back pain following a fall while playing with friends. Christopher Tolley, 12 years-old, visited the doctors with terrible pain in his back but was referred to Birmingham Children's Hospital where, in October, he was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma - a type of primary bone cancer most common in children and young people. He is currently receiving chemotherapy at the Royal Stoke University Hospital and is now fundraising to buy computer games and toys for other children on the oncology ward going through a similar diagnosis.

Mum Sam, from Blurton , told Stoke-on-TrentLive : "I originally thought Chrissy had broken his spine because he came in from outside crying his eyes out. The doctors said we'd have to go to Birmingham so we went over and he was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma. As strange as it sounds, I’m thankful he had that fall because I don’t know what would have happened if it hadn’t triggered it.

"Christopher can't walk at the moment because he was leaning all on his nerves so he's in a wheelchair but he does try to use a frame. All he wants is his mobility back so he can play with his friends." An online fund-raising appeal set up by the brave youngster has so far raised more than £1,200 for children suffering cancer at the Royal Stoke.

It comes as Christopher was treated to a day of fun by the Star Bikers who turned up in his street to pay him a visit - thanks to family friend Bonnie Maclachl.
