The Clina-Lancet Laboratories has called on companies in the private sector and civil society organisations to join the campaign against period poverty through the provision of free sanitary pads to girls of reproductive age. Managing Director of Clina-Lancet Laboratories, Dr. Olayemi Dawodu made the call during the Clina-Lancet Laboratories, Nigeria presentation of 1,500 free sanitary pads to students of the Queen’s College Yaba, Lagos recently.
The initiative is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme aimed to significantly improve access to sanitary pads for girls across Nigeria. During the CSR event tagged: ‘Pad Up a Girl,’Dawodu highlighted the importance of menstrual hygiene education while calling on other sectors to intervene, promote and empower Nigerian girls. She said: “We believe that by working together with non-governmental organisations (NGOs), the civil society and private companies, we can ensure all girls have access to menstrual hygiene education and essential products.
According to her, the “Pad Up a Girl” campaign aims to empower girls with knowledge and resources to manage their periods with confidence and dignity. She said: “Menstrual hygiene is a crucial aspect of a girl’s overall health. “Proper hygiene practices can significantly reduce the risk of infections and ensure girls can participate fully in school and daily activities.
