A new hot sauce has been developed to mimic the painful symptoms of urinary tract infections (UTIs), a condition that predominantly affects women but is often downplayed by men. 'Feel The Burn' sauce is the brainchild of self-testing brand Newfoundland Diagnostics, aiming to educate those less susceptible to UTIs. Two-thirds of men believing UTIs are not painful as women are 30 times more likely to experience a UTI, with 1.
8 million hospital admissions in England over the past five years related to the condition. The discomfort and burning irritation of UTIs are often misunderstood, with many women reporting their symptoms being dismissed or downplayed by medical professionals. Newfoundland Diagnostics hopes to enlighten those who have never experienced a UTI about the agonising and irritating burning sensation an infection can cause, in order to stimulate conversation and alter perceptions.
The 'Feel the Burn' sauce comprises a mix of fiery chilli peppers, including the world's hottest chilli, the Carolina Reaper, to emulate the burning sensations described by sufferers. Naga and Scotch Bonnet peppers have also been included to induce moderate burning sensations, along with star anise to create a lingering, prolonged burn reminiscent of UTI symptoms. The sauce is finished off with cranberry juice, a much-debated home remedy for UTIs.
Starting from June 24, Newfoundland Diagnostics is adding a little extra heat to their offerings with a sizzling incentive; they're giving away.
