ROCHESTER — Mayo Clinic has reopened its John E. Herman Home and Treatment Facility, restoring eight mental health beds in Rochester. In a statement, Mayo Clinic said it reopened the facility in late April 2024.

The home, located at 351 14th Ave. SW across the street from Mayo Clinic Hospital-Saint Marys, received its license to provide residential facilities for adults with mental illness in September 2018. However, Mayo Clinic closed the facility in March 2020 due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The facility currently has capacity for eight residents at a time. The home is credentialed to serve up to 16 patients, according to its Minnesota Department of Human Services license. "The John E.

Herman Home and Treatment Facility brings together specialty care from many disciplines in one location so residents can transform their lives, including building skills to transition back to the community and independent living," said Dr. Matej Markota, medical director of the facility. ADVERTISEMENT Treatment in the facility is voluntary and individualized, Mayo Clinic said, with patient stays lasting three to six months.
