LauraLynn reveals survey findings as part of Children’s Hospice Week Almost one-third of parents of children with palliative care needs (32%) care for their child 24-hours-a-day, seven days a week – with 70 per cent saying that they care through the night for their loved one. The survey, carried out in April by children’s hospice LauraLynn, also highlighted the impact that a devastating prognosis for one child can have on the wider family. Three-in-four parents surveyed (78 per cent) said that they worry that they don’t have the time they would like to have with their other children.

More than 68 per cent of respondents said that their relationship with their partner was affected as a result of caring for their child around the clock, with 38 per cent of those saying their relationship was affected a great deal. More than two-thirds (70 per cent) of those surveyed told LauraLynn said that their relationship with their other children has been affected. A significant 84 per cent reported that their relationships with colleagues, friends and neighbours have been affected with the same proportion also telling LauraLynn that their relationship with wider family has been impacted.

Of the 54 respondents to the survey, more than 85 per cent said that they themselves had received support, such as counselling, from LauraLynn, with over 48 per cent of the second parent/guardian also receiving supports. More than half (57 per cent) said that their other children are linked with L.
