The Mahurangi College kapa haka Te Whānau o Mahurangi and Pasifika Fusion groups will be taking part in a Matariki festival at Whangaparāoa College on June 27. Other schools participating in the festival include Ōrewa College, Whangaparāoa College, Kaipara College and Dilworth School Deputy principal Liana Schischka says about 20 students will be performing kapa haka, using both short and long poi, and about 50 students will take part in the Pasifika group. After the Matariki weekend, Mahurangi College is planning a school celebration on the morning of July 1, comprising hangi, kapa haka, “and a chance to reflect on those gone before and to look ahead”, she says.

The event will be held in the B Block Quad at 7am, and family, whānau and friends are welcome to attend..
