The rain early Monday helped to cool temperatures, somewhat, but by mid-morning what had been an excessive heat watch issued by the National Weather Service was upgraded to a warning. That means taking action. Among those who followed the advice were Christina Korenic and Amber James who packed up their children and headed to the beach at Walter and Mary Burke Park in New Baltimore.

“We’ve been coming here for years,” said Korenic, who lives in Washington Township. James concurred. “It’s great for the kids,” she said, while watching her children make the best of the hot day.

Monday’s heat warning was issued for Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties where temperatures for the next six days are expected to reach the 90s with heat index values near and above 100 degrees.
