Samuel McCaughey, aged 33, from Kilwilke Road, appeared in the dock before Craigavon Magistrates Court on Wednesday, May 29, charged with collecting or making records of information likely to be useful to terrorism and publishing or communicating information likely to be useful to terrorism. According to the charges, McCaughey is accused of recording information regarding details of certain vehicles at Lurgan Police Station which may likely to be of use to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism on May 27, 2020. He is also accused of publishing information about two members of the PSNI which was likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism on the same date. McCaughey was before the court for a Preliminary Enquiry and entered the dock where he heard the two charges put to him. A prosecution barrister told the court he had a submission on behalf of the Crown that on the basis of the papers before the court there is a case to answer.
McCaughey’s barrister Andrew Thompson, instructed by Madden and Finucane, said there was no contrary submission.
