Photo by Ashley Fraser / POSTMEDIA Article content Ottawa firefighters rescued a boater from the fast-flowing Deschênes Rapids Saturday evening after a kayaker was reported missing. Ottawa fire officials said they received a 911 call around 5 p.m.
Saturday reporting two kayakers that were seen entering the rapids on the Ottawa River near Britannia Bay. Article content Only one kayaker was seen emerging from the choppy waters. Water rescue crews from the Ottawa and Gatineau sides of the river each launched boats to search for the missing kayaker.
Ottawa fire crews were stationed on Cassels Street near the Mud Lake conservation area. The boater was eventually spotted with binoculars and was brought safely to shore.
