Keep your gnashers sparkling by avoiding these bad dental habits...
If you brush for two minutes twice a day, floss in the evening and avoid eating tonnes of chocolate - you may think you're the master of oral hygiene. However, there are some common mistakes people make that could actually be stripping the enamel from your teeth. Not only can this cause your once-white smile to yellow, but it can also make our teeth more susceptible to cavities and decay, while also increasing our tooth sensitivity.
With the UK currently facing a dentistry crisis - Brits are taking extra precautions to prevent the dreaded toothache...
Dr Surina Sehgal is a dentist who has amassed a staggering 100,000 followers online thanks to her oral hygiene tips and tricks. In a recent video, she shared three common mistakes most of us are guilty of that could be turning those pearly whites yellow. "Don't use a manual toothbrush," she said.
"It's so common to over-scrub and brush too hard. This aggressive brushing will actually wear down the nice white enamel layer and expose that yellow dentine layer underneath." Dr Surina also urged her viewers to avoid snacking, explaining that every time we consume food our mouth goes into an 'acidic state'.
"The more times you eat in a day, the more your teeth are under acid attack," she added. "This can erode your white enamel layer and expose that yellow dentine layer underneath." Want the latest health news and top fitness tips sent straight to your inbox? Sign up .
