AN urgent warning has been issued for thousands of vapers over two dangerous e-cigarette products sold in Ireland. The HSE and National Tobacco Control Office have issued two RAPEX alerts to the European Safety Gate after discovering the items contain more than the legal amount of nicotine. The legal amount of nicotine is 20mg/ml or 2 per cent.

The HSE has examined the products, and the analysis reveals that the nicotine content in the E-LIQUID refill container was at 25.4mg/ml, and the QST Puff Flex 2800 puffs electronic cigarette tested greater than 30mg/ml. The E-LIQUID (Tobacco 24mg, Ben Son 24mg and USA Mix 24mg) and QST Puff Flex 2800 (Red Bull, Peach Ice, Blueberry on Ice, Watermelon Ice and Mango Ice) are the affected products.

As a result of the examination, the distributors and importers of the e-cigarettes are alerted about the issue. They are required to do a follow-up to ensure the nicotine levels follow the legal regulations. The affected E-LIQUID (Tobacco 24mg, Ben Son 24mg and USA Mix 24mg) and QST Puff Flex 2800 (Red Bull, Peach Ice, Blueberry on Ice, Watermelon Ice and Mango Ice) have been removed from the shelves in many stores.

Consumers with the affected product are asked to return the products to the point of sale. If experiencing serious or ill effects related to the products, they are urged to contact their GP and notify info.tpd@hse.
