The HSE have issued an urgent "stop using" warning over illegal vaping products that have been pulled from shelves. An electronic cigarette and a bottle of e-liquid have been highlighted by the HSE for containing illegal nicotine levels. Taking to X (formerly Twitter) the HSE shared images of the affected products along with a major warning.
They said: "Our National Environmental Health Service has issued two safety alert notices regarding e-cigarette products. "We are asking the public to stop using these products as they contain illegal amounts of nicotine. "People can return these items to the shop they were bought in and we have asked retailers to stop selling them.
"We have also contacted distributors and importers of e-cigarettes and refill containers to make them aware of this issue." The E-LIQUID products affected are Tobacco 24mg/ml, Ben Son 24mg/ml and USA Mix 24mg/ml. The e-cigarette is the QST Puff Flex 2800 puffs 5 per cent nicotine electronic cigarette.
The flavours are Red Bull, Peach Ice, Blueberry on Ice, Watermelon Ice and Mango Ice. The products contain more than the 20mg/ml or 2 per cent of nicotine that is legal in Ireland. As per the HSE advice you do have one of the products you should immediately stop using it and return it to the store you bought it from.
Speaking on the warning Dr Maurice Mulcahy stressed that it is the responsibility of retailers to ensure they are selling are in line with the law. He said: "I must remind manufacturers and importers.
