There are three weeks to go until the nation decides in a General Election and there is no better place than Grimsby and Cleethorpes to test the water. The choice of Grimsby as a Target Town by Sky News brought Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Labour Leader, Sir Keir Starmer to town for a live TV leaders event, hailed as The Battle for Number 10. There was a massive media circus centred on Grimsby Town Hall, the likes of which have never been seen before, beyond its historic pillars.

The grand assembly room, with its painted scene of the Grimsby Hunt from the 13th Century, was transformed into an auditorium where a specially-selected audience of local voters and people from out of town were invited to put questions to the leaders. Due to the format of the event there was no head-to-head combat between the leaders and they didn't even meet up in the town hall.



Instead voters had the chance to grill them in turn, first Keir and then Rishi. It was refreshing to see the two candidates who are vying for power in the spotlight and face to face with the audience and not shouting over one another or interrupting the other. It was a great opportunity .
