Police have confirmed that the emergency incident at Farnworth Train Station yesterday was a fatality. Emergency services were called to the train station just before 4pm to reports a person was on the tracks. Police and ambulance attended the incident, and the station was cordoned off with all trains cancelled from Bolton to Manchester as an investigation in the tragic incident took place.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Farnworth railway station at around 3.54pm yesterday (8 July) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. "Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.” Police officers left the scene just before 9pm and train services were able to resume as normal. An inquest to ascertain the facts around the death will now take place.
