Work has officially started on the new, state-of-the-art £3.2 million development at Grimsby 's Franklin College. Set to include eight classrooms where Business students will be taught and a spacious auditorium with the capacity to seat 160 people, the block will also feature a new reception area and main entrance.
On Thursday (June 13), workers from local construction firm JemBuild broke ground with the new development, which was designed by ID Architecture - and staff at the sixth-form college couldn't be happier. The new build is not an oasis on its own, it's an extension of a plan that has been at the heart of college developments to be a beacon of excellence in the area.
"I'm particularly delighted that JemBuild has joined us for this project because they just completed The Bridge which was the last major development at the college. The whole purpose of the college as being an aspirational centre of excellence for Lincolnshire as a whole is embodied by the developments that are about making this a world-class education facility for our students to enjoy.
