AN IRISH lad has warned people to beware of a nasty insect that carries serious diseases after a mountain hike. The adventurist has shared what to do if you spot the insect on you after noticing one on his skin while hiking. Joshua, known on TikTok as @Joshuanueva is a hugely popular wild life explorer with over 100,000 followers on the app.
The TikToker told his followers to check themselves and their pets for ticks after walking in long grass. He said: "Lads, this is your sign to check yourselves after hikes, a tick climbed up along my pants." Ticks are small insects found in grassy and wooded areas that can carry a lot of serious diseases.
One serious illness ticks carry is lyme disease , which can cause serious long lasting symptoms such as a high fevers, headaches and a skin rash. These insects feed on the blood of humans and animals, and can easily spread the disease if you're not protected. In the TikTok clip, Joshua said he carries a tick remover and a first aid kit with him whenever he is hiking.
He said: "It's just a tiny little green thing to pull the tick out, I've never actually had a tick on me so this is going to be a first." "It is always handy to have with you at all times because you just never know when you're gonna need it like today." A tick remover is a tool that is designed to safely remove ticks from the skin.
It has a fine tipped end that allows you to grasp the tick without touching it and helps reduce the risk of infection or disease transmission. T.
