Plans to remake an empty space in the town centre’s Market Place shopping centre have been called off. The space on the ground floor of the town centre shopping centre has been empty since the Body Shop closed down earlier this year. Card Factory had lodged plans to transform and move into the empty shop in May this year, but these plans have now been withdrawn.

A design and access statement said: “The existing glass and aluminium shop front is to remain with the only changes being the addition of acrylic ‘Card Factory’ branding surface mounted to the exterior of the glazing in the existing ‘signage zone’. “The lettering is to be Card Factory yellow and be internally illuminated, to be switched on during trading hours only. The Market Place shopping centre (Image: Newsquest) "Internally, dark grey vinyl will cut to shape and be applied to the glazing to hide the back of the signage.

” It added: “The proposed signage scheme and shop front works have been designed to be in keeping with other retail units in the surrounding area, using materials that are sympathetic to the age and current style of the property. “Internally, it is proposed for the existing partition walls to be removed, leaving the existing toilet in place. “A new studwork partition wall is to be built to separate the retail area from the back of house and will be finished with slat wall on the retail side and plasterboard and paint on the back of house side.
