In June of 2022, the United States Supreme Court eliminated the constitutional right to an abortion through the historic Dobbs decision. Two years after the fall of Roe v. Wade, 14 states have total abortion bans and three more have a ban after six weeks.

Stories of children forced to carry to term pregnancies due to rape and women facing death due to state laws have dominated headlines. When the decision was announced, Connecticut officials vowed to protect women’s rights and even welcome women from across the country to seek abortion care in the state. Here is a look at the numbers defining the reproductive landscape in CT.



An estimated 14,840 clinician-provided abortions were performed in Connecticut in 2023, according to data from the Guttmacher Institute ’s Monthly Abortion Provision Study . According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention medication abortions make up 65% of all abortions in the state . Dr.

Nancy Stanwood , the chief medical officer for Planned Parenthood of Southern New England said abortion clinics in Connecticut saw a 147% increase in patients from states with severe restrictions or bans compared to pre-Dobbs levels. In the first year of the decision, Stanwood said the state saw a 63% increase in these patients. While the rise is significant, Stanwood said the number of patients from these states represents less than 1% of all abortion patients in Connecticut.
