People across Bolton have been warned that the deadline to register to vote in the General Election is fast approaching. The three seats across Bolton will be in play in July’s election as voters all over the country go to the polls. This will be the first General Election ever in the UK where voters will need to show photo ID.

Council chief executive and returning officer Sue Johnson said: “It is important that everyone in Bolton who wants to have their say in this general election is able to do so. “I urge everyone to check they are registered to vote, to ensure they have the required form of ID and to make sure they are election ready. “If you are not able to vote in person on the day, be sure to apply for a postal or proxy vote before the deadlines so you don’t miss out.” Acceptable forms of ID voters can use include a passport, a driving licence, including a provisional licence and some concessionary travel passes like an older person’s bus pass. Voters will still be able to use expired ID if they are still recognisable from the photo, while people without IS can apply to the council for a free Voter Authority Certificate.

They can do this either online or by submitting a paper form to the council and will need to apply by 5p.
