Campaigners and candidates are hoping to “break down barriers” when Bolton goes to the polls in the General Election just weeks away. This comes with the Bolton Green Party having launched their campaign from the steps on Bolton Town Hall on Sunday, June 9. Having won their first ever council seat in the borough last May, the party says they hope to build on this at the Westminster election.
Cllr Hanif Alli, who represents Halliwell, said: “We want to build on that success, I feel we’ve broken that barrier where people think the Green Party won’t be successful. “We want to show them that people power really can make a change. ” He added: “It’s like Robin Hood round here with the Sheriff of Nottingham calling round every few months, if people are in work they really shouldn’t be struggling. Cllr Alli will be the Green Party’s candidate in Bolton North East where he will be up against Labour’s Kirith Entwistle and Conservative candidate Cllr Adele Warren. Also standing will be Independent Kevin Allsop, Liberal Democrat Rebecca Forrest, Refrom UK’s Trevor Jones, Syeda Misbah Kazmi of the Workers Party and Independent John Partington.
