A person may develop a pot belly if he or she leads a sedentary lifestyle, eats more calories than what the body can burn, eats more fatty and oily foods that foods rich in protein and fibre, and rarely exercises. Experts say that a pot belly may impact a person's physique and appearance but having visible fat may be less harmful. Why? Previous studies note that having invisible visceral fat is more damaging to health.



But, a new study conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) refutes the claim that a pot belly is harmless. In fact they stated that, a pot belly or abdominal obesity may be linked to higher risks of diabetes, heart attack, fatty liver disease, gallstones, joint disorders and other heart related diseases. Fortunately, ICMR has also provided multiple dietary guidelines for men and women that will help them lose that paunch.
