Bellway Homes have been given the go-ahead to build 99 homes on former green belt land after the controversial plans were approved. Under Greater Manchester's 'Places For Everyone' plan, Bellway Homes received formal planning permission for the eight-acre development from Wigan Council's planning committee on Tuesday, June 11. The development, off Silk Mill Street in Mosley Common, will comprise of two, three and four bedroom detached, semi-detached and mews homes and includes 25 'affordable properties'.

Objectors claimed that there are already 'more than enough houses' in the area and that the infrastructure cannot cope with the current population. There were also concerns that the 'affordable properties' were "not genuinely affordable" as the development contains no social housing.
Under the Places For Everyone and Mosley Common Masterplan, the developer has agreed to invest almost £800,000 into the local area.
