JAMESTOWN, N.D. — At a time when labor and delivery services are closing in rural cities across our area, Sanford Health's Jamestown Clinic is doubling down on delivering babies, and continuing care as they grow up.
For one family, the clinic's holistic approach has had a big impact, affecting four generations. The Sanford Clinic in Jamestown has a team of five primary care providers who practice obstetrical care. One of them is Dr.
Mandy Sorlie, who's been at the Jamestown Clinic since 2010. Being able to keep labor and delivery services going in the community is the reason she wanted to work there. "If we did not provide obstetrical care our patients would be driving 100 miles no matter what direction they went in order to just deliver their baby.
Which seems like a lot considering that you could have a baby in 100 miles pretty easily," Sorlie said. But in the Jamestown Clinic, the care doesn't stop after birth. In fact, it can last a lifetime.
Dr. Sorlie is the primary care provider for the Sova family. Kari Sova first met Sorlie while she was pregnant with her oldest son Jensen, and they've been close ever since.
Sorlie has delivered all four of Kari's sons, including Jensen, and is now the primary care provider for all of them, as well as Kari's mother-in-law and even her mother-in-law's mother before she passed away.
