The experts of AIIMS highlighted the increasing prevalence of high blood pressure in youth and stressed on the importance of early detection and diagnosis. Describing how disturbing this trend is, Dr Sumit Malhotra, Professor, Centre for Community Medicine at AIIMS said, around 15 to 20 per cent of children and adolescents who are among the age group of 10 to 19 years have hypertension rate that is way more than what is normal at their age. The situation is alarming according to Dr Malhotra as high blood at this age can lead to serious health complications such as brain strokes, heart or cardiovascular problems and retinal issues, reported IANS .
