Female superheroes have filled the pages of comic books from the start, but their portrayal has been a subject of controversy; the program will cover how women are perceived in popular culture through the medium. The program is free and open to area residents ages 16 and up. Details: 352-735-7180.

The Astor County Library, 54905 Alco Road, will have an A-Z About Bees class from 1 to 2 p.m. July 9, led by David Westervelt, vice-president of Bees Beyond Borders, a Florida-based non-profit dedicated to training, education and inspections.

The free class will cover bees, beekeeping and botany. Details: 352-759-9913. The Lake County Water Authority will host another Water Wednesday program for children in pre-K through fifth grade at 10 a.

m. July 10 at Hickory Point Recreational Park, 27341 State Road 19, Tavares. Participants will learn about the impact everyday lives have on the environment.
