SHOPPERS have been left devastated after a local and much-loved newsagents in Dublin confirmed that it was closing its doors for good. Hewetts Newsagents in Monkstown, Co Dublin announced they would be closing for good after over 75 years in business. Taking to Facebook, owner Thelma said they made the decision to retire after over 70 "wonderful years" in business, adding that they were thankful for all the customers who were "part of our journey".

The post continued: "A heartfelt thank you to our customers and to the community of Monkstown. "We are overwhelmed by the incredible well wishes, cards, gifts and all the beautiful memories shared with us this week. "Thank you very much for making it a week to remember!" As shoppers were left heartbroken over the closure of the family-run business, one in particular paid a heartwarming tribute.



Ryan Tubridy took to Instagram over the weekend to share fond memories of his local newsagents after the announcement. The former Late Late Show presenter returned to Dublin over the weekend after making his move to London last year after leaving his job at RTE. Spending time in his hometown over the weekend, he paid tribute to the staff and owners of the local business.

Sharing an image with the store’s owner Thelma, Ryan said: "A sad day in the neighbourhood as the local newsagent (that sold EVERYTHING) is closing its doors. "Thank you Thelma for the kindness and the liqorce allsorts. Good luck with the next chapter.
