THE SCOOP Sitting along the winding Carmen River in the middle of the Island, Yaphank is a community with a thriving historic district, natural beauty and plenty of access to water activities, recreation and even hunting. The Robert Hawkins family home was built in 1850 and is on the U.S. Register of Historic Places.

Carmens River is a kayaker's paradise, with a popular launch at Southaven County Park. Along the way, kayakers can see birds such as osprey, great blue heron and cormorant. Carmens River Pine Barrens State Forest Park is available for hiking and hunting.

William Floyd Parkway is a main thoroughfare through Yaph.
