‘At 14, I weighed 14 stone. I always felt big. From that, it created body image dysmorphia .



’ These are the words of the new Miss England, Milla Magee. The 23-year-old made history after wining the prestigious beauty contest on May 17, in Wolverhampton. The lifeguard and part-time model was bullied for her weight at school but now proudly admits to wearing plus-size dresses as well as XL clothes, revelling in the fact she’s not the ‘standard’ beauty queen.

‘I used to try to conform to an unrealistic match of my body image. I didn’t have a representation of what I could look up to of what was me. I always wanted to be petite and small,’ said Milla.

‘I was a healthy weight for my height. Whatever number or size you buy, it doesn’t define you. ‘We forget at times that brands are sized differently.

I’ve been able to squeeze into a size 8. I feel happy buying a size 16 or an extra large.’ Previously crowned Miss Newquay, Milla beat out 39 other women for the Miss England title, and her victory comes just after Prince William gave her a personal good luck message.

She said: ‘Winning Miss England is the biggest honour of my life. I truly believe in the competition and everything it stands for to inspire young girls and women to be better versions of themselves.’ The competition is intended to teach the .
