Let’s go Wild, Calgary. Hundreds already have, as soccer fans enthusiastically threw their support Tuesday behind the city’s newest professional sports franchise. Calgary Wild FC sprang to life in front of a throng of backers at McMahon Stadium, helping — they hope — to forever change the course of the future for female footie talent in the city, Alberta and Canada.

“It’s so exciting — I’m so pumped,” said local soccer product Sarah Kinzner, of the highly anticipated day to announce Wild FC’s coming-out party. “I’d always hoped for it,” continued Kinzner. “And the fact that all these people have been working endlessly in the background, as a player, we appreciate that so much.



“It’s making people’s dreams finally come true.” Indeed, Calgary now has a pro team in place — ready to join the newly anointed Northern Super League , the country’s first pro women’s domestic soccer circuit formerly known as Project 8, which is scheduled to hit the pitch in 2025. Wild FC joins teams representing Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver and Halifax, as confirmed earlier this week by Canadian soccer veteran and NSL CEO and co-founder Diana Matheson.
