A plus-sized Miss Alabama winner has warned online trolls about the harm caused by their comments after she was targeted for her “unhealthy appearance”. Sara Milliken , 23, claimed the top gong in Alabama’s National American Miss - a beauty contest called a “pageant for today’s girl” - and it’s caused a stir over social media. Sara hails from Atmore, a town located on the edge of the Florida border.

Posting to Instagram , Sara said winning Miss Alabama was a “dream eight years in the making”. She competed twice previously before triumphing over the Memorial Day weekend. Sarah hopes to use the title to put her hometown in lights - following the victory, the “old soul at heart” said she went to “help out” at bingo.



She is the first woman from Atmore to claim the Miss Alabama title. Among many supportive comments, Sara’s Miss Alabama win drew a series of harsh social media slurs. Blaine Tom Mieroughts wrote: “I thought it was a beauty pageant.

” Randy Hicks added: “Is that actually considered attractive in Alabama?” John Mason said: “This should have been (M)iss Jack in the Box winner,” a reference to the fast food chain. Sara has returned serve, warning haters of the weight some of their comments can carry.
