Collaboration is key,” says singer-songwriter Bidisha Mohanta when asked about making music that hits the spot. The India’s Got Talent fame is known for her melodious voice and fusion compositions that bring folk, jazz, and R&B together with her expertise in Hindustani classical music. Bidisha, a Ganda Bandh Shagirdh of the late Padma Bhushan Ustad Abdul Rashid Khan sahib , is also trained in English pop music.

We caught up with the singer, who’s in town for the first collaborative musical night of her own record label, while she rehearsed for the show. Excerpts: Bidisha believes that talent is ubiquitous anywhere, be it in Kolkata or Mumbai. “I shuttle between the two cities and I know there’s no dearth of talent.



I don’t want to say that I’m trying to change the way the industry functions, but I want to be able to nurture and help artistes send their art out into the world,” she shares. According to her, there should be enough room for everyone to shine and that requires the right kind of collaboration. “My aim is to help align like-minded folks to create art, be it in music, post-production, videography or any other creative zone,” she adds.
