To me there's nothing better than heading somewhere with no, or low, expectations because we always end up having a good time. And that is what always happens when I take the kids to the Yorkshire town described by many as 'dying' and a 'dump'. If you look up Withernsea on TripAdviser the most recent review is titled: 'Do not go!!' and the short entry says: "Wow what a dump!! Nothing open, nothing to do, was looking around for cameras I thought a episode of Benefit Britain was being filmed there.

Local Peter Ashworth said independent shops open but only last a few months due to low footfall.
