Others made the most of the intermittent spells of sun by flocking to Cullercoats Bay in North Tyneside, while the annual cheese rolling festival in Gloucester attracted hundreds of dairy-loving thrill-seekers. In true Brit style, many braved the brief spells of rain to make the most of their extra day off.
