Lagos: Nigeria’s First Lady has taken a sharp dig at Meghan Markle over her dressing choices, stating that the women of Nigeria should not get carried away while trying to resemble American celebrities’ attire. The remarks come days after Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex’s high-profile visit to the African nation.

President Bola Tinubu’s wife Senator Oluremi Tinubu made the remarks while speaking in Abuja to mark the first anniversary of her husband’s administration, the New York Post said in a report. Senator Tinubu made a compelling call to dress modestly to teenagers and young adults, urging them to reject the fashion trends popularised by American celebrities. “We have to salvage our children,” she asserted, highlighting concerns over the current dressing trends.



“We are not having the Met Gala. And everyone, the nakedness, is just everywhere and the men are well-clothed,” she emphasised, advocating for a cultural shift towards more conservative attire. “Tell them we don’t accept nakedness in our culture.

That is not beautiful. It’s not beautiful at all,” she added. During her visit on May 10, Meghan Markle highlighted her Nigerian lineage, which Tinubu did not speak about directly to take a jab at Markle, the First Lady did mention her 4.
