The plain areas in Uttarakhand, including capital Dehradun, are under yellow alert for heat waves, crossing the mercury beyond 40 degrees Celsius. While hilly parts of the state are pleasant amidst light rains. To get rid of sweltering heat, the tourists from Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh are flocking towards Uttarakhand's tourist spots like Mussoorie, Nainital, Kausani, and Mukteshwar and, resultantly, hill stations are seeing huge crowds and hours long traffic jams.
Dehradun : After a brief spell of rains last week, Uttarakhand’s capital Dehradun is again witnessing a soaring mercury crossing the 40 degrees Celsius mark for the last two days. The Indian meteorological department, Dehradun, has already issued a yellow alert for heat wave in plain districts Dehradun, Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar and incessant rains in all the 10 hill districts in the state, particularly, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar and Almora for the last week of the May month. On the other hand, the mercury is soaring high in Dehradun and other plain areas amid yellow alerts issued for heat waves. The scorching and sweltering heat is forcing people to stay at home amidst, making their life miserable. According to Biram Singh, director, IMD, Dehradun, Dehradun is five degrees Celsius above normal.
