Directed by Xavier Gens, known for his work on Lupin and Gangs of London, the film aims to merge environmental activism with high-stakes horror but ends up sinking in its own narrative flaws. Starring Oscar-nominated Bérénice Bejo, Nassim Lyes, and Marvin Dubart, the film takes place in the summer of 2024 as Paris hosts the World Triathlon Championships on the Seine for the first time. The plot follows Sophia, a brilliant scientist, who learns from Mika, a young environmental activist, that a large shark is lurking in the Sein.
To prevent a catastrophe, Sophia teams up with Adil, the Seine river police commander. Under Paris ambitiously tries to raise awareness about climate change but falls into the trap of many shark horror films before it, such as The Shallows , and Deep Blue Sea . While it aspires to join the ranks of Spielberg’s 1975 classic Jaws , it ultimately flounders, particularly in its climax.
