- "I visited Kyrgyzstan earlier, but I did not notice such dynamics as now," UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said during talks with President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, which took place on July 2 in Cholpon-Ata. “Kyrgyzstan seemed to be sleeping before, but now it’s galloping forward like a horse. It was a sleeping beauty, but now turned into a galloping racer," President Japarov said.

The UN Secretary-General said he saw that efforts were made to attain the Sustainable Development Goals. Antonio Guterres noted the initiative of Kyrgyzstan to develop mountain regions. He recalled that the UN declaration on this had been adopted.



"Kyrgyzstan was able to show itself as a leader and draw global attention to this issue. If you look at the map, there are mountains in many countries, but Kyrgyzstan was the first to take the initiative to develop mountain regions," the UN Secretary-General said..
