A crossbow-wielding ex-soldier — suspected of brutally murdering his ex-girlfriend, her sister and their mother — has been captured after a 20-hour manhunt. Kyle Clifford, 26, was found cowering in a cemetery with self-inflicted wounds hours after being named as the suspect at the centre of the horrifying triple murder. He was under guard in hospital on Wednesday night as police waited to question him about the murders of Carol Hunt, 61, and her two daughters Hannah, 28, and Louise, 25.
The three – the wife and daughters of BBC 5 Live horse racing commentator John Hunt – are believed to have been tied up in their home and shot in a bloody rampage described as ‘incomprehensible evil’. Police were called after neighbours heard screams, finding the victims fatally wounded. Despite the best efforts of officers and paramedics, they could not be saved following what detectives said was a “targeted” attack at their home in Bushey, Hertfordshire, on Tuesday evening.
Mr Hunt, whose voice is known to millions of listeners, arrived home a short time later to the scene of devastation. His former BBC colleague, racing correspondent Cornelius Lysaght, said: “Like everyone else I feel numb and sick on John’s behalf at such incomprehensible evil. “Everyone who knows John knows he is the absolute archetypal family man, so proud of them, so it’s impossible to know what he can be going through.
” Just moments after the attack, CCTV on local homes caught a figure dressed.
